Youth Day

International Youth Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 following a recommendation made during the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1998. The first official observance took place on 12 August 2000. The day was created to raise awareness about the opportunities and challenges faced by young people worldwide while promoting their active participation in social, economic, and political development. Since then, the United Nations has celebrated the occasion annually with a unique global theme addressing issues such as education, climate action, employment, digital transformation, mental health, equality, and sustainable development. International Youth Day has no religious significance and is not linked to any religious tradition.
