International Students' Day originated from the tragic events of 17 November 1939, when Nazi forces suppressed student demonstrations in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1941, exiled student representatives formally declared 17 November as International Students' Day to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those students and to promote peace, freedom, democracy, and the right to education.
